Backflow Preventer Testing & Inspections

Backflow preventers are an important part of your fire protection system.

Located between your fire protection system and the water source that supplies it, a backflow preventer ensures that the water inside your sprinkler system doesn’t backflow into your water supply, causing potentially hazardous cross-contamination to the drinking water.

There are two main backflow preventer types used for fire safety systems: Double Check Valves (DCVs) and Reduced Pressure Zones (RPZ).

DVCs are most commonly used for low-hazard settings where a cross contamination wouldn’t result in a health hazard.

RPZs are typically required in high-hazard settings. These include those where a cross-connection that is unprotected could result in contamination to the water supply and cause disease, illness, or even death.

Backflow Preventer Testing, Inspection, and Maintenance

Testing and inspections are required per NFPA 25 & local/state water departments to assure that all backflow preventers are up to code and will operate effectively and safely.

During a routine inspection, Certizona’s highly trained and certified service technicians will perform thorough testing.

This includes a visual inspection of the backflow assembly for damage, corrosion, and leaks.

Additionally, all valves are pressure tested to confirm that the assembly is operating correctly.

Following testing and inspection, we will forward a complete and detailed system report to you and the authority having jurisdiction in your local area (city water department).

Backflow Preventer Repairs and Replacements

If the device shows signs of water leakage, it will need to be repaired or replaced.

Repairs can vary from simple fixes like o-rings or rubber gasket replacement kits to more comprehensive fixes like replacing the valves or even the entire assembly.
